Crotaphytuskidd Jul 28, 2007 11:43 PM

Hi guys,

Here's my latest project. I recieved a pair of Yarrow's Spinies from a friend in AZ and I just wanted to share some pics of them. Tell me what you think.

Yarrow's are one of my absolute favorite species. I've observed them in the wild, and they always go for rocky places. In my Yarrow's tank, which is a 30 long, I have the entire back of the tank covered with a 3D rock ledge. This is where they spend most of their time. I have other rock formations in the tank foreground as well.

They are lizards which like to dart around, so I would question your horizontal tank setup for them. I would think that would be for a more arboreal species such as anoles or chameleons.

Hi Esther,

thanks for your input. I've had the opportunity to watch these guys in the wild too....It was really neat. sort of like watching Chuckwallas. Just in the mountains. A friend of mine who breeds them suggested I try the screen cage, as he has had success with them. I figured I may as well try it. They seem to utilize every part of the cage, their darting seems to go uninhibited. They come down to get insects that i offer. Kinda interesting. I'm thinking about creating a large Madrean mountain style viv. Possibly with some Mountain Short Horned Lizards and a few more Yarrow's if these continue to do well. What sorts of insects do yours favor? Any keeping tips you'd like to impart?

thanks again!!

I always fed mine large dusted crickets, with occasional waxworms as a treat.

I observed mine last night fighting. The more I look closely at them, the more I think the guy I bought them from sent me 2 males. I would really like to get a definite female. Know where I could get one?

Also, I'd like to get 1.1 utas. Here in NYC, reptile shows are far and few between. Just went to the only one around a month ago, and no one had any utas or yarrow's. Western lizards are very hard to find around here.

Hi Esther,

thanks again. I don't know where you could get any CB Yarrow's or Utas. I could ask some people if you'd like. PM me.

That is a nice looking setup. My fence lizards seem to LOVE the wire mesh. They hang upside down and crawl all around on the top of my cage, so if it is working out for you I say go with it. It looks really nice.

Esther, I may be able to help you out with the 1.1 Utas. I will pm you.

Matt
