All Black Coachwhip

Sighthunter Jul 31, 2007 01:12 AM

Although this black specimen is listed by Collins to be a testaceus I belive it to be a piceus. I have never seen an Eastern Coachwhip black to the tail tip in person or in a photograph. Berry Aaron caught one that he claimes was all black but I never did see a photograph of it. My challange is for someone to post a picture of an all black Eastern Coachwhip, ALL BLACK!

Take my word on this one. It was all black and there was really no pattern or other color bleeding through. As I recall you were not interested in it at the time.It probably still resides in Grayson County Tx. I'll show you the spot sometime when you come back down. Hopefully I'll see you in a week or so!!!

Oh it's Barry not with an E

I am always interested in Coachwhips. Most from that area have a light tail so an all Black would have been fun to work with. Get off your computer and go find another one. Can you get some pictures of your local bat eating population? Are you coming out for the meteor shower? I will be back in Texas Monday. I will be looking for Rabbits!

Bill,

I have owned several Eastern Coachwhips(M. f. flagellum) from east Texas that were very very close to being solid black. There was always some kind of red or pink near the tail or belly. The whips in the picture are both phases of piceus, I have owned both phases.
Call me sometime bro! 719-994-5805.

Not all black but I love the color of this female Eastern. The picture really dosn't show the beautifull bronze on her. I got her at auction for 1$ - wish I had caught her! I just need to find a good looking male to put with her.

That's an absolutely beautiful eastern, I love the color on the darker ones.
