Liquid_Metal - Method for CocoFiber

Jah Jul 31, 2007 03:44 PM

What do you think? I have this little trash can with holes on the bottom to let the water out when I drain the water from the Coconut Fiber... Should i use this next time I make more coconut fiber? I haven't tried this yet but it might make it easier for me next time.

That is not a bad idea. Have the holes on the bottom and have some type of board to press it down on top to wring the water out. If the holes are too big, some coconut fiber will escape.

If the holes are too big... get some of the soft fiberglass window screen.. cut two pieces and fit them into the bottom before putting the coco fiber into the can. It will still allow drainage, but also do a better job of stopping bits from escaping and making a mess

I use a 5 gallon bucket from walmart.

Fill it 3/4 full with hot water and put the brick in.

Next morning I scoop the stuff out with a colander, dig through it with my hands to let as much wate escape as possible, and then grab handfuls squeezing out as much water as possible - them dropping the squeezed fiber into a 41qt sterilite tub (long and short).

Once that is done, I set it out in the sun for a few hours, and it is dry enough. I then put the dried fiber into another 5 gallon bucket for storage.

I did something like that too. I have bags of dried coconut fiber stored right now.

For others, when you leave it in the sun, stir it every 30 minutes to dry it faster.
