What turtle or tortoise do I have? 5 pic

morcat Aug 03, 2007 03:58 PM

Hi, 2 weeks ago I got this baby turtle. From the pet shop, en Tigre-Argentina, they told me that it was hibernating and is a land turtle and a veggie. 3 days ago just wake up, is ''running around'' and didnt eat anything: like lettuce, apple, tomato, carrot or pumpkin.
I got the baby turtle in a pet shop in Tigre-Argentina, near to the border with Uruguay and to the Parana Delta.
Mi problem is that now are almost 3 days since she wake up and still nothing.
What can I try for the food? I have already use lettuce, apple, carrot or pumpkin in small pieces.
Because she was hibernating now is week and I dont what kind of food should I try.
Here are 5 pics: http://xsolo.biz/pics/various/mi-tortuga/
Thanks a lot, ciao, Catalin,

Your tortise is a baby Chaco Tortoise, Geochelone chilensis. The chaco is a desert scrubland tortoise which while in the wild feeds on grasses, cacti, shrubs, and fruits. In captivity they feed readily on greens such as collard, kale, and grasses for 3/4 of their diet. The rest of the diet can be made up of fruits, vegetables, and even perhaps a little meat as it is speculated that the chaco tortoise feeds on carrion in the wild.

Great, thank you very much. I will see what I can find for food because I am in Buenes Aires, is winter and not too many options.
I have already give her lettuce and was ok. I have try some tomato, cucumber and pumpkin but nothing. Bye, Catalin.
