coiledbattalions Aug 05, 2007 11:46 AM

hey guys, i just got my first pair of hatchling red pygmys and i was wondering if you can house them together if they are hatchlings. i know with certain bush vipers you can house a pair together if they are raised from babies together. ofcourse i would feed them sepreately and seperate them for breeding. Other then those 2 times though would they do ok together or should i seperate them now

You might be able to get away with it, but why risk it? If anything they'd be more likely to prey upon each other while they are small. I have one female pigmy rattlesnake that has killed 2 males. I have other adult rattlesnakes that I house together a large part of the time.

Interesting technique... Most people I know that breed snakes put their snakes together for breeding rather than separate them. Snakes breeding while separated must be quite interesting.

woops sorry about that, i write it in a hurry before, i ment that if i were to keep them together that i would seperate them for a time before attempting to breed them. sorry about that.

It is possible to house them together but as bobby said there is a risk and why? What do you plan on housing them in? Are you planning on displaying them at this age? Do you follow proper HOT keeping protocol's with secure room? What kind of experience do you have?
