are blue tegus a color variation of the black and white or are they seperate species, also if anyone knows, an estimated price range, for baby blue tegus, could you tell me.

The blue tegu is a color variation of the colombian tegu not the argentine. But this is still an ongoing debate, but for now that is what I hear.

i did some reading and im still kind of confused, i understand that the blue tegu originally came from colombia, but its temperment, and physiology, seems, allot similair to the argentines. but its seems strange that it was close enough genetically to hybridize with red tegus, which has me even more confused, because to my knowledge there have never been colombian/red hybrids, and there has never been argentine/colombian hybrids either. but from what i have read, red tegus eat a high amount of fruit, but blues have a highly carnivorous diet like the colombians. so hopefully they can figure out how to classify the blue tegu.

OK frist off the Blue has not been classified, but a french zoologist did photograph a few blue tegus in Brazil where its though these lizards are found. Its now thought that the first blues where caught in Brazil but there is no exporting from brazil so they were shipped in with a batch of comlumbians. As of right now the general idea is that they are closly related to B&W but are not a color variation.

AS for price this year looks like prices are gonna be on the high side. I got mine for steel at $175 but right now they are going for $300 of het, and even more for Snow or Albino.

thanks a lot guys. yeah well i decided to buy one yesterday, and i got lucky, i adopted one off of a local classified add, it was someones pet, and its still only about 15 inches long, but it has beautiful color allready, and shes a het, not to mention her adoption price was only $150, shes going to be one amazing lizard. ill have to post pics.

nice find! I got mine from a breeder who was getting out of the biz and the baby i got was a hold back, i had to pay shipping but for ony $175 i can't complain. Good luck with your girl! Oh ya warning the max size on these guys somethimes lie, my boy isn't even one yet and his 3 feet long, lol.
