tortoise poop question...

weebeasties Aug 10, 2007 05:13 PM

Ok so if any of you have been following my posts, here is whats up now...the girl is finally eating but has still only pooped once. Vet said if she is willing to eat that the gravel is probably working its way out. My question is how often does the average 50 pounder poop? What is a healthy average? My little two year old tort poops daily or almost but do the older ones too? I'm just trying to get an idea. She would only eat if I hand fed her but today she showed some interest in the food without coaxing. My vet and I feel she will poop again soon because she has had such a consistant appetite for the last week or so. As always...Thank you.

My sulcata is about 40lbs and he poops daily with his high fiber grass diet.

I'm sure someone already suggested it, but a 10 minute soak once a day will keep your pet hydrated and stimulate a little "action" if you know what I mean.

holy smokes yaah my 5 pounder poos sometimes three times a day Its a pooing machine!!! and all he eats is natural grasses and weeds/ hay / hibiscus and once a week a veggie treat. my torts eat alot of grass too.
I have to clean up the enclosure with a shovel luckily he goes in the outside part instead of the inside part so it is not smelly but man this winter is gonna be rough,,,,

Ah darn, wish mine would go outside his dog house. Nope, he feels it necessary to poop and pee inside with the hay and bury himself in it! Ewwww....

Mine does that about 9 months out of the year. I am now so much more physically fit than I was 5 years ago when she got here.. because I muck out her house all the time LOL.
Right now we're in the wonderful part of the year where she poops outdoors every day. I don't feed her, she has a half acre of Bermuda grass with lots of dandelions & other greens to graze on.
She's 70lbs & poops daily.. but later towards winter she won't do that.
She'll eat less so she'll poop less, then she starts grazing more but not a lot more in March. From March through July she always poops inside her house.
I've noticed that her main eating season with daily pooping outside starts in August & runs through most of Nov.
It's got to be the more mild temps that start to happen at the end of Aug.
Then it'll get cold & she'll slow down & we start this all over again.
