Whites Tree Frog

alex_reid33 Aug 14, 2007 10:50 PM

Hi,

I just recently purchased 4 whites tree frogs and have them settled into their tank nicely however they dont seem to be very active, they just sit inside a hollowed out log sleeping and their appetites dont seem to live up to the reputation. I was wondering what their appetites and activity level are directly related to as well as any tips that would be usefull for a begginer

Thank You-

A picture of your tank would be the best help.

What do you have in it, what are the temps/humidity levels day/night? How big is the tank?

How long have you had them?

They do take a while to adjust, leave them be, cover the tank up for privacy. Regulate the day/night cycles with a timer. Mist heavily when the lights go out at night and then 15 min or so later drop in the crickets. Make it a regular schedule and they will start to get used to it and eventually be waiting for the crickets.

Though I will say that many feed whites outside their tanks due to issues with impaction. That also solves the situation of all of them getting enough. I would say you should be feeding a dozen every other day (between the 4). Make sure the crickets are well fed a day ahead of time and dust them only every other feeding or once a week.

You may want to check out the reptic zone forum as well. This one runs very slow. There are many with them over there.

Its a 55 gallon that i had left over from a fish tank, the temps are 29 during the day and 21 during night and humidty usually stays around 60-70 range and whenever i seperate them to feed in a seperate tank they freak out and stay in the top corner completely ignoring the crickets, im not that concerned as they will take a cricket or 2 every 4 or 5 days so they are eating but i know its not nearly as much as they should be eating and ive only had them for 3 weeks or so. Im assuming they are still adjusting to their new home but if anyone else has had this same problem and found a way to correct it or if it has corrected istelf please let me know

If they are freaking out I'd just try to feed inside the tank for now.

Your bedding should not be something that they could get impacted with, they tend to lunge at prey and scoop up stuff with it. Cocoa bedding is the best, Eco Earth, Bed a Beast etc.

I'd go with the suggestion before of creating a schedule, but keep them calm now. Try to give them lots of places to hide, lots of plants, etc. I'd leave maybe 1/2 dozen crickets in overnight and leave like an apple slice for them to eat (so they don't bite the frogs) and then see how many are left in the morning.

Many whites are wildcaught and are totally stressed when they get shipped to the stores and then again when they go to homes.
