Hookworms and Trematodes...

zookeeper7986 Aug 18, 2007 10:02 AM

So a couple of my dart frogs have started to get skinny and start wasting away, so I took in a stool sample to my vet clinic and found hookworms and trematodes!!! My doctor perscribed a dewormer and I have started treatment, but the second half of the treatment requires a change in environment. I now have to start all over w/ new plants, new fruit fly cultures, new substrate, etc... It is a ton of work, but it needs to be done. I say this all as a reminder that our smaller companions need just as much care if not more than our dogs and cats. Laws are making it more and more difficult to keep exotics--let's not give them any more ground by being irresponsible with our herps. Good luck everyone...

Luke.

don't make them a "pretty" tank. put them in a quarentine set up. if not then if you don't get rid of the parasites you will have wasted another good tank. use papertowel and nothing else.
