Screaming Frog... what the?

heseigojira Aug 24, 2007 04:22 PM

Can anyone explain this to me? I've had plenty of frogs and see them almost every day back home, but this is just freaky!

You know, I've actually seen that in the wild before. Most frogs have a distress call that they issue when they feel threatened. Bullfrogs and Green frogs often let out a quick squeak when they are startled and jump into the water. If you've ever seen a frog being eaten by a snake you'll know that frogs can make really weird noises. On one occasion I caught a Bullfrog and the moment it was picked up it just started screaming. I swear that thing could scream this high pitch AIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII for at least 15 straight seconds. Much like the squeak as they jump into the water, it is a distress call either to confuse a predator or to warn nearby frogs that danger is near

I figured it was a distress call, but never heard it before! lol!
Thanks for the info. I just felt weird since I kinda thought I've dealt with them so much that I thought I'd seen it all. At least someone else has seen it, though.

Yeah, I've been "frogging" since the age of 5 and now at 21 I have only seen it once in addition to that video. The sound was different but essentially it was the same deal.
