New Blue Tongue - Kinda long

Graniteer Aug 26, 2007 01:32 PM

Hello, I've just come back from the Portland, ME reptile show, and I got a BTS. I believe it's a Northern, but not 100% sure. The vendor I got it from was not sure, but another vendor I chatted with told me it was a Northern, he used to breed them. I know I shouldn't have purchased an animal from someone who couldn't give me all the details on it, but I did. Got it for 100 bucks, it's a hatchling, about 7 inches total length. Appears to be in good health, getting mad at me when I examined it, puffed and hissed. Haven't fed it yet, plan on some mealworms and kale/collard salad. Trying to find temp to keep it at, I am at about 87-88 temp, aspen substrate, UV Bulb. Any good temp? I can't find a consistent temp, saw from 75 all the way up to 110 for the warm side. Humid hide is on the way. What sort of dust should I use, and where are the holes in my care? Thanks for reading.

visit www.bluetongueskinks.net for complete info.

dont rely on dusting... rely on a rounded wholesome diet.

No research shows that blueys need UV but it cant hurt if you can afford the replacement bulbs each year. Look into a Mercury Vapor bulb which gives heat AND UV in one bulb.

temps: "heat gradient" 70's on cool side, up to 100's on hot side of enclosure.
