I have 3, 3 year old res. They recently have been loosing paper thin pieces of their shell. They have clear eyes, healthy skin, and are eating and acting normally. Nothing has been changed in their tank. What could this be? How often do they shed scutes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Nez

That is completely normal. As long as the shell is not soft
or smelly underneath the scute, everything is fine.

Mine do it probably at least a couple times a year but
mine are older turtles. Just be careful of overfeeding.

Hope this helps

It's normal shedding for them. Just let them fall off on their own, don't pull on them. You may also see small pieces of skin peeling from their heads and legs, that's normal shedding too. If you're seeing this shedding too often, you may be overfeeding and they're growing too fast. So keep track. When mine was 2 or so I only fed him around 3 times/week and he would shed every 3 or 4 months.
