trex8692 Aug 31, 2007 04:16 PM

Hi guys is there a skink that would be suitable for a tank around the size of 15" x 10" x 12" (l x w x h) taht will tolerate handling and will have a PREFERRED but does not have to be a diet of prepared foods?

you can just name some of them, i wanna do some research by myself but any additional info would be greatly appreciated

Sandfish, five lined, western, and gilberts could all live in a tank of the dimensions you described, but could use something bigger if possible. Some smaller skinks(such as schneiders) will take prepared food, but do best on a diet of live invertebrates and the occasional pinky mouse. Schneiders skinks make excellent pets for the size you mentioned, but do best on live fooed, and it is quite entertaining to watch them attack insects from beneath the substrate.

what about eating prepared crickets and other invertabrates? would that be ok?

and did you get your name from the epic of gilgamesh?

50-75% of the diet could be composed of pre killed crickets and other insects. This is of course only if your skink will eat dead prey. Another nutritious option is to feed phoenix or silkworms, which can be purchased off of the internet. When Under refrigerated conditions these insects can live for several weeks and do not require gut-loading. Finally, yes, I did get my name from Gilgamesh.
