housing Ahaetulla sp. or Oxybelis sp.

hunteroc Sep 04, 2007 12:38 PM

Would there be any problem with housing Ahaetulla sp. or Oxybelis sp. in a dart frog type viv. Including a filtered water feature, live plants, false bottom and misting system. My main concern was with the substrate and level of humidity. Thanks for the help

the main problem will be that both are frog-eating species, ahaetulla more than oxybelis.

yea for sure wouldnt have frogs in there except for chow time. I was mainly concerned with the level of dampness and the substrate. Would I have to continually change out the substrate due to the urine and what not. Would having a top layer of say bark or leaf litter be sufficent to be changed out. Thanks for the reply

Oxybelis would be problematic.
in the wild they live mostly in open, sunny areas and never in a constant dampness.

Thanks for the info. So OXybelis is out. In the branches, vines and creeping plants it should not stay to moist constantly. So ahaetullas would be a good choice for this type of viv?
