rosy babies with no eyes

orxines Sep 04, 2007 12:55 PM

Hi!

Yesterday my female saslowi rosy had babies for the second time. Last year she had four healthy young ones and two unfertilised eggs, this year she had two healthy ones, two unfertilised and two with no eyes! (one has a vestige of one eye, but is blind as far as I can tell)

Does anyone here have any experience of anything this, and what may have caused it? I bought the parents as an unrelated pair, and they had exactly the same care last year and this. The blind babies seem big and strong so far, perhaps even bigger than the ones with eyes.

I would be grateful for any ideas/experiences!

Thanks a lot!

I've seen the like before.
I don't remember if it was mid-bajas or not.
These 'special' rosies also had no eyes, but were healthy in all other respects.
Dunno if it was a congental defect or a genetic one.

Hi!

Thanks for replying! Do you happen to remember if it was a one-off or if the same parents produced eyeless babies again (if you did breed from the same pair again, that is) - if so, maybe I should try and find different mates for mine.
