Worms in soil..what are these?

noodles21 Sep 06, 2007 06:30 PM

If this is the wrong forum I am sorry...

My green tree frog and pacman frog both got new soil a few weeks ago. I looked closely at the soil (mostly the wetter parts) and there are hundreds of little black worms. A 1/4 of an inch long.

I threw everything away because I hate worms and I freaked out a bit. What are these? Are they parasites? What can I do to prevent these in the long run?

Thank you for any replies

in a tank housing those species worms probably arn't good. i have thousands of little white worms in my dart frog tanks, but they just eat them. with frogs that big they wouln't be able to eat them. i would just change the substrate and wash the tank out with 5% bleach solution if possible. if you are really worried you can use dry ice. take the frogs out and the dry ice will kill the worms but not plants. do more reserch before you attempt this though.
