New to Painteds Need Help!!!!

WSURugby10 Sep 10, 2007 06:12 PM

I'm new to painted turtles and I'd really like to get a couple. Despite all of the care sheets I read and all of the websites I look at I don't know how big a tank I'll need for two of them. I have a 75 gallon tank (48"L x 18"W x 20"H). Could someone please tell me what I could keep in here if its too small for two painted? Thanks for your time

I have 1 Eastern Painted in a 60 gal pond outside, and I bring her in for the winter in a 55 gal. tank. I am in the processing of buliding a 60 gal pond in my rec. room. (finished basement). 60 gal is only good for 1 painted though. She seems to do fine. When she comes inside she sulks for about 3 days. She loves it outside.

it really depends on how large they are. if they're hatchlings or yearlings your 55 gal should definitely be enough for now. what kind of painted do you have? for example southern painted adults are significantly smaller than eastern or western painted.
