Brown anoles & babies - HELP!

ErichRhom Sep 14, 2007 02:21 PM

I keep 1 male and 2 female brown anoles in a 55 gallon natural terrarium. The thing is I found 3 babies running around it today! The questions are: 1) Do brown anoles eat their young like green anoles do? 2) There is plenty of food living in the terrarium, so should I leave them in the terrarium? 3) If I can't leave them in there, what would be a quick food I can use until I can get some pin-head crickets or fruit flies?

Please respond soon so I can prepare for them!

Thanks,
Erich

Ok, I took them out and set up their own 10 gallon terrarium. Now the only thing I need to know is: Where is a good quick place to get pin-head crickets or wingless fruit flies? My friend at the pet store told me to put a slice of banana in there and it should draw enough gnats and fruit flies to feed them for a while. Taking any and all suggestions.

Thanks,
Erich

VERY cool! I've seen fruitflies carried at most Petcos. You might get lucky with something at better aquarium shops too.

I couldn't find any locally, so I ordered some from:

http://www.edsflymeat.com

and I had to cover their terrarium with a finer meshed screen(when I checked on them one was looking at me from on top of the terrarium ), so the banana didn't get a chance to work.

How long before they show up? Till they do, you could always cut up very small pieces of crickets and try feeding them with tweezers if you can get close. I've done that with small ones. Maybe even try small cut pieces of waxworms but don't let them get addicted to those.

I believe they should be here tomorrow. (I hope)

I found two more eggs in the parent's terrarium last night and transfered them to the baby's terrarium.

Excellent! So they started gobbling them up right away? If there are more babies on the way, you might want to start another culture before those are gone.

Thanks for the reply! Well, my adult male just recently died of old age, so I'm hoping that one of the babies (5 now) turns out to be a male. I have a few already head bobbing, so I hope that's a good sign. I ordered some fruit flies and pin head crickets off the web, and the babies are chewing them up! I have a really good relationship with my LPS, so I have an outlet for them. I also keep a saltwater reef tank and took the store some corrals and an anemone and got $85 store credit!
