baby coachwhip(growing up fast)

porky88 Sep 15, 2007 01:19 AM

Man! this little guy has quite an appetite.
I've been trying to feed him every nite.
He loves his geckos.
I have noticed a strong attitude in this one, way stronger than my ratsnake(and he is 3 1/2').He was not like this when I got him.
He even attempts to attack my small turtle when I put it near his tank.
Well that is it for now...

Owner of:

1 Texas River Cooter(cleaned up, ready for release)

I have a Western that is pretty nervous, whipping himself through the cage when I expose him and hiding always unless I lift his cover.
I wonder if calm handling will ever tame him.
However, he eats like a champ, but not unless I leave it for him.

BTW-Porky, where in Ctl TX are you? I'm in Austin

He has no problem with me watching him eat. I have actually had three other friends in the room while he ate. I believe young coachwhips have the strongest tempers. Adults that have remained in captivity may mellow out(this was the case for my ratsnake).

I live outside of Austin. Pflugerville.

One of my best friends from the Austin Herp Society is in Pflugerville. He keeps balls, bloods and Amazons, plus assorted other stuff.

I plan to keep working with this one I have, but as a WC adult, I forsee it taking time.
These are pretty smart animals, though. He may learn that it does no good to bite.

Yeah, my baby will only bite when I reach in to grab him.
This habit is dying down though.

How do I become a member of Austin Herp??
Any room for teenagers like myself?

Heck yeah, there's room for everyone.
Go to www.austinherpsociety.org and check us out. We have our next meeting Oct. 5th in Georgetown. All of our meetings are in Austin. G-town or P-ville.
You can join online, but why not come to a meeting first. Our speaker this month is Harry Greene. If you don't know him, Google him. It's a real honor to get a speaker like him.
Hope to see you sometime. Any more questions email me at jkjeansonne@yahoo.com
