I just got 7 new babies......

tsusnakeguy Sep 16, 2007 07:31 PM

I have recently come into 7 baby african spur thigh torts. I have a few questions. I care for adults and I feel stupid but I am not 100% sure how to care for the babies. Can I use the mazuri tort food just ground up for the babies along with greens and veggies? Also is there any way to sex a baby?

I use Mazuri and have great success with it, but please only use it as a supplement. It's very important to provide as much grass and grazing as possible. Edible plants, plenty of sunshine and shade, water etc.

I believe they recommend feeding a half of a pellet to 1 baby so that might help with deciding on how much to feed. With 7 babies I would soak a few pellets and leave them out in a dish, the Mazuri soaks quickly (within seconds)..but allowing them to graze on grass/hay and edible plants is still one of the best things for them. Sunshine is a great stimulant so allow them to have access to sun and shade to hide from.

Have fun with these little guys!!!

And there's really no way to sex babies until they are about 12-14 inches in length. That's a few years from now.
