frog bloated

froggyfeet Sep 22, 2007 06:43 PM

I just got a vietnamese blue tree frog. When I bought him I noticed they were all on the thin side. One in particular looked more healthy than the rest, so I chose that one. The guy at the store told me he knew nothing about them or their care so I researched. The only thing I could find about it was it's adult size (2.5-3 inches?), its temperament, how long it lives & some pictures. No care sheets whatsoever. I searched forums and someone on repticzone told another member that had one that the care is the same as the white's tree frog. That person was wrong, and so was I for not researching further. My frog became severely dehydrated because the humidity was too low and the temperature was too high.So I called another petstore and someone told me to care for it as most tree frogs are cared for....room temperature and HIGH humidity, with frequent mistings (which I was already doing). The frog is looking better and a little more active but is bloated. Could this be because of the temperature change? What can I do about it?

i've been doing some research and i think it may be a bacterial infection. i've read that higher temps and lower humidity, plus dry substrate, mela fix treatments, and no misting just dipping ( in a hospital tank) will help. will it? or is this a bad idea?

do you see any redish purplish spots anywhere (underbelly)? are you sure it isn't shedding it's skin, they get all big and puffy when they do that, look for clear skin comming off. is it during the day and night, or just night. my frogs call at night and so get all bloated looking. good luck!

my frog died last week. i decided to buy a couple red eyed tree frogs instead of another vietnamese. they seem to be healthy. one has white spots that im keeping an eye on and they both have lines across their lower back. they look like dry lines or atleast thats what im hoping they are. are lines along the lower back common in red eyes?

the place i got them from werent taking care of them well. they were in some sort of critter keeper or herp haven (they are both almost full grown) and their was nothing for them to climb on or to keep the humidity in. i wouldnt have normally bought frogs in these conditions but they looked healthy and the store only had them 2 weeks. so we'll see how it goes

i'm sorry about your frog. i have never kept red eyeds before, but i'm pretty familiar with their care. i don't think the white dots are anything to worry about though, just keep misting them. what do you mean by lines? good luck with them and you might want to get fecals done, esp. if the place you got them from wasn't the greatest. heres a really good red eye care sheet
