Picta Gecko Hatchling- My First Birth!

nile_keepr Sep 22, 2007 10:46 PM

Hey, was doing some cleaning up in one of my picta gecko cages. The cage itself is a 20 gal. long and is currently housing a single male (though a female HAD been in the cage, but not for quite some time).

Decided to take the large male out while keeping him in his humid hide (a small tuperware like container) and, what should I find in the hide with him?

A tiny hatchling! Upon further inspection, I found the eggshell.

This is the first egg Ive found, let alone a fully developed hatchling.

Needless to say, Im quite pleased

Cute little guy. Lucky thing the male didn't eat/beat up the little one...

Well, Ill be damned...

I was getting ready for bed and looked into the males cage.... and what do i see?

AN EGG!?

In total, I found the remnants of at least 5 more eggs (a big ass clutch for a tiny picta geck!). One had a tiny hole in it and was hollow/dried out (i really hope I didnt do that somehow ). another was completely broken as though it had hatched, but I found no evidence of other hatchlings.

The last 3 Im not very expectant of, to be honest. One had a small crack, but dosnt seem to be leaking (somehow), another has a small hole in it, so Im guessing im outta luck there (never know tho!). The last one is a beauty, and im thinking its the most likely to survive (not saying much). None of them look especially promising.

Truth be told tho, I doubt any will come to term. Im still in disbelief that my tiny lil female laid 6 bloody eggs without my knowledge. Blows your mind.
