Calcium supplement NO go!

gothicruler Sep 23, 2007 07:23 AM

I was feeding my little gaston crickets that where ownly fed on bug grub(calcium based food mix) the crickets started to eat it and then they went off it.So i went to my local pet shop to buy powdered calcium which you dust the crickets with however gaston doesnt like the powdered crickets and is refusing to eat them hes just buried himself for about 3-4 days and has just gone to sleep. He woke up this morning and i have resulted in feeding him non powdered crickets because he hasnt eaten in a few days is there any way in tricking him to eat powdered crickets or am i just gonna have to keep using bug grub and hope the crickets eat enough so that my little gaston gets all the nutrition he needs.

also i have changed his crickets from small browns to blacks ALSO, the blacks are bigger in size. He ownly ate one which he bit in half and hasnt eaten anymore since. He is only a baby and i am wondering whether i might have over done it on the sizing of the crickets and that is why hes not eating them.

at the moment i have resulting in going back to small browns this morning could someone help me as i am not sure on what to do on this matter.

You could try a different cricket food. Buggrub is only one in a thousand brands. It might just not be palatable to the crickets.
If your froggy doesn't like the black crickets, go back to the brown. If you first fed the black crickets to him when they were dusted, maybe he is associating the dust with the black crickets?
Food is a good size if it is the size of the length between your frog's eyes.

I would try feeding it dusted crickets again, three to four days without eating is nothing. These guys can go for weeks sometimes months without eating.

Don't want your frog to develope MBD.

My pacman used to eat crickets only but I have been able to get it to eat all types of prey. A little patience goes a long way.
