I was at the Oregon State Fair a few weeks ago and the was a reptile and exotic animal exhibit on display it was pretty neat to see all of them. The had a 35 year old Sulcata very nice looking no pyramiding and was HUGE looked almost 3 feet from head to back. I have seen other adult Sulcatas but none this big!! If my little guy gets that big I will need heavy equipment to move him around. So I guess the owners of this place have a rescue farm too and are local, and they are having a pumpkin festival at their farm, so I will have to go and see this big guy again and maybe see the way they house him.

was it "Brad's World" or "Harts Reptile world"? I live in Oregon too but missed the fair. Sounds like fun.

Oh, I dont think either one of those. They are having a Pumpkin Festival at Hoffmans dairy farm in Canby next month. I dont know if this is their home or if they are just doing another exibit at this event.

How cool to see one that isn't pyramided at that age & size!
Did you get any pictures?

Yes it it was amazing considering that we just went to the Unique Animal and Reptile expo today and it seemed every Sulcata over two years old there had some pyramiding.

If we get out to see that giant again I'll try to remember to take some pics to post.

Good deal.. if you can remember.
I know what you mean, ours is very pyramided, we took her in that way.
I don't ever see any that aren't except for the 2 young ones my vet is raising, one of them she's had since it was an egg. That one is nearly 3 years old now & so far not one hint of pyramiding!
Nice to see that.

I think I am doing all the right things and still my going on 3 tort is getting a bit of the raised bumps on his shell. Feed mostly grass and clover mix, sunlight in the summer, UVB mercury vapor bulb in the winter and a soak every few days. I have heard that a bit of humidity in the sleep are helps too. I have recently changed his substrate to coir fiber maybe that will help keep it a bit moister.

Let us know how it goes for you. It'll be interesting to know what works for you & what doesn't.
I've never had to house one indoors, our girl was already big enough when she got here to stay outside so I've not had to worry about humidity, substrates & such.
