My baby wont eat greens

zaccaryus Oct 09, 2007 10:03 AM

Hi,
I love my skink he is great. But I fear because he seems to be a complete carnivore. I think I spoil him- but seriously- would it really be helpful to go the tough love way and let him go without feding for a day? then try greens obv

Also I have my night thermostat for his tank set at 80-Itrust this is not too high- thanks,
Zach

Well, a skink can go weeks without eating. I doubt one day will not break his stubbornness. The trick however, is to mix finely cut greens into his meat portion.

Also, you want one end of the tank to be at around 100 degrees F. the cool side can be in the 70's to low 80s.

That's tough to get your skink eating greens. I have a real young one and it wouldn't for the first couple weeks. I ended up just mixing some veggie baby food in with some meat bits to get him started. Now, it eats the salads real fast and all the time. Also, at night, I just turn the heat off for the entire tank, and it drops down to about 65-70-ish through out. Otherwise it never sleeps. Hope this helps, and I'm sure it'll get to eating greens. Good luck.

Geez, that thing is a little stinker, huh? I guess just keep trying, and maybe reduce the meat portion little by little to get it to try to eat it's greens. I liked using the smushed up green bean baby food to get mine to eat greens, I mixed it with chicken so it couldn't pick around it. Hope this helps, and good luck.

You can try putting everything in the food processor until its blended together, and then slowly decrease the amount of blending every feeding.
