Trimorphodon Feeding

jumpinallday Oct 10, 2007 03:40 PM

I have aquired lyre hatchlings and have had them for 2 weeks at the propertemps in a hatchling rack. I offered a small fence lizard with no success also I ave tried fence lizards tails while still twithcing and scented mice tails with no sucess. Does anyone have experience getting C.B. trimorphodon to feed. In a another couple weekd I may just resort to the pinkie pump until they fee don there own.

They find lizard prey sleeping at night so perhaps position some dead lizards inbetween rocks so they can find them or assist feed a couple lizards and they should get the idea. But wait a bit longer because a hungry snake always eats so maybe they are not hungry enough yet.

Hi Ricky,
I have not actually had to feed any Trimorphodon, but you might try the tease feeding method with a new born pinky. I have used this for lots of reluctant ratsnakes. You have to hold the snake in your hand and give them maybe an inch of neck movement. I then harass them with a pinky until they strike it. The key is getting them to hold on to it..once that happens I freeze all my movements and hopefully the snake will go ahead and eat the pinky. It may take several trys and if the Trimorphodon just strike and don't latch on to the pinky, then this technique will probably not work. Good Luck!
