Western Painted Turtle Care... help.

daveski Oct 11, 2007 05:43 PM

I might be getting a few hatchling/juvenile painted turtles soon.

i just wanted some basic care info from some folks who have successfully kept this type of painted turtle. I have kept red-eared sliders and am wondering if the care is similar?

the information i am seeking is what type of lighting/heating they need, the temp i should keep the water, what is a good well balanced diet to use? etc.... i live in the NW where we actually have these turtles in fairly cold areas, so I was wondering if their environment/water temp needs to be cooler than say a red eared slider or southern painted turtle.

anyways yeah if anyone has any helpful information please feel free to share. Thanks

They can be kept exactly like your RES. I have for almost
10 years now.
