redback salamander morphs

fraugman Oct 13, 2007 01:37 PM

I recently caught a bunch of salamanders(northern spring, northern red, red spotted newt, dusky, two-lined, slimy, etc.), and a couple redbacks have strange coloration. Some have reduced black, one is lead colored, and another is white-grey. I have caught the first two patterns before, but this is my first white one. It does look lighter than in the picture. Has anyone else seen light grey redbacks?
Thanks

If other attempts fail you can always just post the URL of the image directly into the message body and we can just copy/paste

Red-backed Salamanders are pretty variable as I'm sure you know but I'm interested to see exactly what you're talking about with this guy

It definately wasn't a four-toed, I catch them too. I recently caught another redback that was entirely silver, no black lines at all, in the same area. All the other silver ones I catch have black markings.
