Pastel Agamid food question

Hissenia Oct 15, 2007 04:48 PM

Hello,

I have a Pastel Agamid. Its about 6" long. it alittle picky about what it eats. It will only eat 1/4" size crickets w/ the jumpin legs removed. I tried some common wood ants and it became very active lickin up every one it could find.

here's my question:

Can it survive on Harvester ants? or will the ant "poison" make them sick?

Thanks

regular old ants shouldn't be too bad, i used those to get some really tiny toads a bit bigger. look up the diet of your lizard. too much of anything could be bad. this is also a good opportunity to try to get it to eat new things. throw in some ants and some other insects it's not used to eating. it may pluck them up in the frenzy.

Hi, I keep a few different species of agama and besides crickets, small roaches, superworms, they all love their salad everyday/or other day.

Small chopped pieces of collard greens, kale, shredded carrot they love, shredded squash, chopped turkey in tiny pieces, banana chunks, just try different veggies. They love dandeline flowers and greens, rose pedals when I have roses.

Best wishes with your agama friend!
