UVB and Jewelled Lacertas.

Roger Van Couwen Oct 16, 2007 10:00 PM

Hello, this is my first time here. I have some JL's, and I wonder if they need UVB like iguanas do. I'm pretty sure all their other needs are being met. They eat cricket and zoophobas, and look healthy and are active, burrowing and such. 85 - 87F seems to be their favorite basking temperatures.

Regards,

Roger

Should I use the UVB the same way I use it for my Green Iguana?

Hello Roger!

Yes, T. lepidus, like all heliophile (sun loving) lizards require UV (UVB, as well as UVA) radiation in order to stay healthy and behave normaly. In addition to UV they need very intense light source which is best achieved by using metal-halide lamps (usually marked as HQI, HSI or more advanced HCI and CDI). If you want to know more check the thread in this forum "Question from Ingo" posted in june 26. 2006.where pretty much everything about this type of lighting is explained.
