saly's are ferocious preditors

boxienuts Oct 23, 2007 05:24 PM

I bought some super worms at the Tinley show and my saly's attacked them. But what really shows off their speed is dropping a dozen crickets in the tub, they go from sluggish to lightning speed. It's different though, when they eat nightcrawlers, they just mouth them like a toad, but then they head-shake them to stun them, it's like a dog trying to pull a chew toy out of your hand, I'm suprized they don't make grawling noises.

Ha, agreed. This is one of the reasons I am sure I will always have at least a few tiger salamanders as "pets"... I feed mine by hand and can't get over how brave these guys can be and how fast they are to grab a bit to eat... The rest of the time they're lazy bums. Awesome animals...

have you tried feeding live pinkies? hehe

Blecha Oct 24, 2007 03:46 PM

oh yeah, it's so hard not to feed them pinkies more than one a month though lol. they love 'em though. i try to vary what they eat and end up using them as a "garbage disposal" when the other critters aren't having what i offer... they'll eat anything it seems like sometimes.
