My PacMan frog has not moved or eating in a few weeks. He is sitting half buried with his eyes shut and dirt in them. I am keeping him moist, but i dont know what to do.
I have a picture of his eye.

he may be aestivating you what are the temperatures??

bunkerhill165 Oct 24, 2007 10:28 PM

His temperature is always between 80-90. He has an undertank heater and a heat lamp. Before his temperature was probly around 65, but the temperature has been at a constant 80-90 for about 2 weeks. THere was a point before, where it had been cold, but shouldn't he be awake yet if the temperature is fine?

He's not sick, he's hot and dry.

Get rid of the heat lamp, and keep him moist!

bunkerhill165 Oct 25, 2007 12:25 AM

Thank you, I just turned it off, but im still open to other suggestions. Thanks.

I can't leave the light off because it gets to cold for him. The temperature gauge doesn't even read how cold it is.

These frogs burrow to escape heat.

What are your temps in the house that it gets so cold?

bunkerhill165 Nov 02, 2007 04:38 PM

The temperate is always between 80-90, more down towards 80. I just turned the red incandascent lamp off because someone said he was drying out, but it gets alot colder withouu that lamp.

These frogs can take temperatures down to about 65F... In the lower temperatures all that happens is they become less active and eat less.

Turn off the light.Unplug the heat pad.You could be cooking him!!!.Everyone wants to use heatpads on frogs. It is not needed.I use a low wattage 60 watt reg.bulb 6-10 inches above my pixis 20 long.We keep the temp. set about 68 in the house.hes been doing fine for several mnths.Got him when he was about 1-1/2 niw he is about 4-5 now.On our fire bellies 3 years now no heat and a 25 watt reg bulb just for accenting to see them. Also, the supplier I get all my caged pets from says do not do not do not use a heat pad on frogs......Good luck remember everyone no heat pads on frogs

That's ridiculous. Heat pads work very well for pacmans. The trick is to use your brain. What does a lamp do? Remove humidity! These are amphibians. They like water.

If you use a heat pad, you put it on the side of the tank, to increase ambient temps, while allowing the frog to burrow to escape the heat.

Its common sense not to put it on the bottom if you know anything about the natural history of these frogs.
