I forwarded that link to the head of animal care at a place I intern a few days ago -- we occasionally have chytrid crop up and infect some of our exotic frogs and quite a few have died. The solution mentioned does indeed seem too good to be true and Dr. Kevin Wright (author of amphibian medicine bible) seemed skeptical when it was posted to the AZA amphibian listserv. That being said, however, it does seem promising. I can hardly wait for the professional paper on this finding to be published but unfortunately the review process sometimes takes over a year before these things make it to the journals. I can understand why they would release their findings early. Anyway, I think we're going to give it a shot the next time some of our frogs get the fungus -- if it's about to die anyway then there really isn't any harm in trying.

Yes but you can cure them for sure right now with buffered itraconazole.

The concern I have over the media release is that the media release states that they are made resistant and then later it cures them.... these are not necessarily the same thing. A resistant amphibian can still be infected and as such can act as a carrier. This also doesn't make the offspring resistant or cured....

Anytime a media release comes out before the peer review I think back to the cold fusion announcement....

You can never be sure if your pond or water supply is contaiminated. You can treat your frogs with lamasil foot fungus spray, and clean the surroundings with a light bleach solution.
