pumpkin head...any thoughts

pelcman Nov 01, 2007 09:59 PM

I hatched this guy out about a month ago and he has some orange coloring on his head that I have never seen before.
I have a bad camera so the pic is not very good.
Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this? The other eggs I hatched from the clutch are all normal.
Thanks
DP

Nope I've never seen an orange head on a sulcata.. a box turtle yes but sulcata no.
Did it come out of the egg that way? I wonder if some of the substrate you used to incubate could've seeped in & caused it?
I just don't know.. anyone else?

Yes, he did come out of the egg that way. I did consider the the incubation medium as a cause, but all the others hatched out normal, and he is still holding that color.

Maybe you just have a fluke baby who's going to be really really pretty all through it's life.

Yes he is healthy, eats like any newborn sulcata. That color has stayed with him so far (about 3mths). I will try and post better pics soon.
