cannibalism in hatchling turtles

JKC Nov 04, 2007 08:56 PM

I have around 60-70 RES and yellow belly hatchlings. This morning I found two dead and mostly eaten. These turtles are well fed. I never saw one that appeared to be sick or weak. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Young turtles are eating machines as they need energy to grow big enough to not get eaten by predators. The hatchlings probaly died & the others just ate the bodies.
