pyxie frog help!!!

megalumanycle Nov 05, 2007 09:26 AM

Hey guys...
I'm kinda new to this whole pyxie frog business, so im looking for some advice...
i just got a pyxie frog from a friend of mine that didn't want it after finding out how big they can get..
so as of right now its still just a little guy...
Basically whats going on is that it hasn't eaten for about 2 days.. ate the first day no problem but wont anymore!
also, iv got the tank set up 1/2 land 1/2 water which is what everything i read is saying is best because pyxies burrow..
fine.. but now the frog wont go in the water!!!
i set up some spagnum moss left over from my snake hides.. (not already used... its clean i promise!!!) in one corner that iv been keeping damp which frog seems to like kuz its always burried under it.. but when i went to change the water frpg was kinda dry... so i put him in the water and well surprise surprise, right back to the moss!
Im just wondering if im doing anything wrong!?
i have snakes, and lizards and have had tree frogs before but this guy is making me insane!!!
any suggestions on what i can try would be greatly appreciated!

most people keep them in a full land setup of coco fiber with a water dish, much easier to maintian. I started out with the 1/2 deal and quickly changed. For the most part, they love to burrow or sit in their water bowl. Keep their substrate moist. Some frogs are different, he may be feeling a little intimidated and so is always hiding. If he is a little guy, he should be in a smaller tank, maybe 5/10 gallons tops. They are usually voracious eaters and are not scared so give hime some time to settle in. heres a good messageboard to read up on..... Jon

Great, thanks so much for the advice..
im thinking just a water dish instead of 1/2 is definitely going help out with the cleanup thats for sure!!
right now we have Pierogi (frogs new name lol) in a short 10gallon tank.. thats actually the on my friend gave me so i figured it shouldn't stress him out at all because he never moved really!

any suggestions on a good type of food to feed pyxies...?
we have some butter worms that he apparently ate a ton of before we got him, now wont.. iv seen him eat maybe 2 crickets max, mind u we have only had the guy for about a week now...
is there some other type of bug types that they seem to like more than others?
