Feeding O. porphyraceus

dravenxavier Nov 05, 2007 10:24 AM

Just a quick question. Recently I've seen a few references that they should be fed more frequently than once a week. What is everyone else's regimen on feeding juvies?

I feed my coxi once per week but I feed them multiple mice. My male will usually eat 2-3 appropriate sized mice while my female will eat 3-4 mice in one sitting.

My female went from 12 grams on November 30th, 2006 to 120 grams on November 5, 2007. I would say that is quite a nice growth rate. The male is just behind her at 92 grams.

Yes, my juvenile is growing at an equally supersonic rate. Thanks for the input, and I suppose I will begin feeding mine more. Much to the delight of the snake, I'm sure.

No problem. I usually let mine defecate before feeding again.

i wouldn't say they SHOULD be fed more than once a week, but you CAN feed them often. they process single prey items pretty quickly, which is especially amazing given the cool temps that we keep them at. we often feed 6 times a month when they are juvies.

Thanks. Your care sheet comes in quite a bit of handy, too. With those feedings, it's one food item of appropriate size at a time, correct?
