snapping turtles

i will be getting my first common snapping turtle soon and just wanted to know if anyone had any tips on care. but i do have one question, will a snapping turtle be under the mud or hiding most of the time or will i be able to see it alot during the day? thank you

they like to lurk under cover,at least mine does. He will come out and investigate during the day, sleep when it gets dark(i use a timer) where do you plan on keeping it,tank/tub/hole in your yard? read my other post below,this works very well for my little guy!

Yah man some of my common snappers sun themselves so you will see them definitely quite a bit.
