Ovulation is when mature ova move from the ovaries into the oviducts to be fertilized. The presence of a male is usually required to initiate ovulation in most female snakes. Once in the oviducts, the ova will either develop into viable young if fertilized, or be deposited as unfertilized ova. The ova cannot be re-absorbed once they have moved into the oviducts.

Okay so what I'm wondering is - does copulation take place in order for ovulation to occur? And also, if not, is this the best time to introduce a male?
