Ameiva has parasites

my ameiva undulata has parasites. i got the meds for him from the vet but i was told to do a bedding change before i start treatment, in the middle of treatment, and after treatment. can i use shredded newspaper for bedding while giving him meds. the bedding i normaly use is too expensive to change it 3 times in 10 days. please respond soon.
