what snakes????

coluber Nov 11, 2007 09:26 AM

Just wondered ,apart from racers and whips, which other colubrids do people on this forum keep???

I'll start the ball rolling..apart from Masticophis and Coluber I have :
white spotted cat-snake (Boiga drapeizii),a pair of young FWC'S,a pair of African house snakes, and a breeding pair of corn snakes (plus 3 young that I've kept on from my last batch of eggs).

...oh yes ...and a Jack russell who thinks he's a snake!! (likes going down holes in the ground!!!)

I'm asking because I think there are lots of interesting colubrids out there that are very under studied!!...thanks Paul

I sir have a emori rat, western hog, and just parted with a texas rat. i have always had a texas rat. i have to let them go
sometimes because their attitude.
and quit trying to keep water and garter snakes. i keep it
simple when it comes to snakes. i still want a copperhead
or prairie rattlesnake (some small rattlesnake).

I just got rid of everything but my coachwhips and a small western hognose that my wife is in love with. To me, no other snake really gets me excited like a coachwhip does. Don't get me wrong, I love all snakes. There are some that I don't care for as much as others, but a snake is a snake to me and I think they're all cool. But none of them get me on the level of excitement that a coachwhip does. Their speed, agility, intelligence, all of it, it's just fascinating to me. And the fact that they're an understudied species in captivity makes them even better.

Can you post some pictures of your Boiga?
I had Boiga dendrophila dendrophila and Boiga dendrophila gemmicincta, awsome snakes, but I hated it that you only see them at night.

At the moment I have
1.1 Masticophis flagellum
1.2 Rhamphiophis rostratus
2.2 Psammophis orientalis

Nice to hear what some of you guys keep other than the obvious..I agree Kev,if I lived in the US I would probably just keep coachwhips (of all the various sub-species)...Surely the most interesting snake in the world

Gillian my boiga takes fuzzies, usually assist fed!!
