Female Adult Clawed Frog / mating:

PhunkeyPhish Nov 12, 2007 05:05 AM

I just got an adult female african clawed frog... whoa. She is HUGE! Doing great in my 29 gallon goldfish aquarium. I just had a couple question about these frogs. 1) what is the best diet to feed them? I have been giving some reptomin pellets and shrimp pellets and it seems to be eating the fish flakes too. The other day I have it a small dead pinky mouse and it stuffed that into its mouth greedily. I feed my pacman toad one dead mouse every 2 weeks and he's been doing well for 1.5 years now. Anyone recommend or discourage this feeding regiment? 2) If I were interested in mating her how difficult would this be? 3) I've got a biochem background and am blown away by the fact that these guys have the antimicrobial "magainins" in their skin. Just wondering if anyone knows if this stuff leeches out into the water... if so that is a definite plus.

thanks.

I know of people who had fed theirs pinkies. I feed mine crickets and trout worms which they love.

I would say it is fairly easy to breed them. I have had eggs a few times but nothing came of them. I don't think they are old enough though they sure do enjoy trying. I do know that when the eggs hatch (within a couple of days) it is hard to get them to full-fledged frogs.
