stinkpot wedging

billysbrown Nov 23, 2007 09:31 AM

Hi,

I am a new stinkpot keeper, and I have a question about hiding furniture.

The turtles seem to be doing well - eating like hogs and looking good.

The turtles frequently use the half flower pots I have in their tank as hides, but sometimes I also find them sort of standing next to/against the filter. I also broke down and bought one of those floating turtle ramps that attaches to the side with suction cups, and twice they've popped it off by wedging themselves in against the wall and the mount.

They seem to want to hide in other positions than the flower pot halves will allow. I'm wondering what people have used as spaces into which their turtles can cram or wedge themselves in vertical positions. I'm trying to think of something that won't allow them to get dangerously stuck and that they can't destroy.

Thanks,
Billy

my stinkpot does the same thing. I use a piece of driftwood that leans against a half flower pot, with river rock along the bottom of it. He likes to climb to the top of the wood and get close to the light and sleep for hours, and also wedge himself between the wood and the side of the tank, shoving the rocks out of the way. So I pile them back up every few days or so. He also likes to push behind the filter. I wonder if maybe they like to feel the pressure on their shells. Maybe it makes them feel secure.
