I probe my snakes and have gotten quite confident at it. does anyone know if it would work to determine the sex of my sudan plated lizard? I imagine that it would work the same way, I've seen pictures of x-rays of lizards and their, um, reproductive organs, and they are in the same place.

If you Probe your Sudan you will most likey damage the sex organs thus unknowingly sterilizing him/her.

Sudan as with most Gerrhosaurus species have very strong muscles in the tail and vent areas which makes probing unreliable as to the depth you think you can determine if Hemipenes are present. Which is just as unreliable as trying to "OP the Hemipenes"as the strong tail & vent muscles just won't allow accurate sexing.

Sexing is best done with Behaviour changes and physical development of the lizard as he/she becomes sexually mature. This is my opinion after decades of keeping and breeding Gerrhosaurus & Zonosaurus species with successful yearly breeding and production of Offspring.
