Xenopeltis/sunsnake question

Bladespark Nov 28, 2007 05:19 PM

Hi!

I'm considering my next snake purchase, and at the moment I'm looking at a few different things, but what I'd like the most is to get a sunsnake. I've seen quite a lot of care sheet information about them, but most sites I've read say they're nearly impossible to get captive bred.

I really don't want to deal with a wild caught individual, it's a pain and I'm hate not knowing if my pet was ethically caught or is being harvested in a way that damages their wild population.

So.... I guess the question is, does anybody here know anybody with captive bred individuals they might sell? And what kind of price range am I looking at to get one?

Thanks!

Hi,
Sunbeams are rarely bred in captivity and the few people I know that have produced them have kept the babies. They are not that hard to acclimate if you start out with ones in relative good shape. I can help you with pointers on that if you are interested. Take care. John Meltzer

Any pointers you can give would be awesome. It's looking like I may be lucky enough to have the budget and space to get a new snake sooner than I thought, so I'm really hoping to be able to find a Xenopeltis before much longer!
