Waterland tubs? Anyone have on?

retaks13mac Dec 05, 2007 10:56 AM

I have quite a few turtles and am looking for a nice place to put them since they are getting a little two big for the tank and the small indoor pond I have. I was intrested in getting 2 of the large waterland tubs but wanted to hear people opnions. Is there alot of water room in a large one? Are they worth the money? Know where to get some at a good price or any stores around Michigan that carry them? One tub would have 4 common/flordia snapping turtles(5 to 8 inches) and the other would have 3 RES(5 to 8 inches) 1 blandings(6 inches) and one cooter(5 inches). Would the large tubs be a good size for that many turtles? would it be too crowded?

Thanks to anyone who helps and responds and sorry about all the questions.

In my opinion that is way too many turtles for any size tub. I had three RES in a 1,000 gal pond, and it wasn't big enough when they were full grown. Each one was the size of a dinner plate. You will have to get more tubs.

I understand that they will need a larger home in the next year or two. Im just looking for something to keep them in until I purchase a house within the next year or two. At that time I will be making 2 large outdoor ponds for them.

I also was just checking on the tubs, like how many 6 inch turtles would a large waterland tubs fit? Im trying to get a good idea on how best to keep them. I've had and been caring for turtles for the last 6 years but always hatchling/young turtles(stuff under 4 inches) never kept anything long term. What would you suggest to keep the turtles in? Anything that you would recommend?

for the florida snappers I would reccomend a stock tank over a waterland tub. The tubs are great for nesting turtles with the 1/3 tub land area but this means a smaller water area, and also that you cant fillthe tub over halfway or you will flood the land area. A large tub could house up to four or five 6 inch basking turtles. Regarding distributors many that carry the small and medium tubs will not carry the large tubs. The big ones only hold 65 gallons. And I agree that 4 snappers in a tub like that is too many. Especially during feeding time.

You would need 4 large tubs plus a small tub for the blandings.

you dont put snappers with anything else.

Waterlands ARE fantastic. Get the drains but you gotta put them in yourself.
