Becoming a breeder???

icedearthgoddess Dec 06, 2007 12:28 PM

Hello, I have been doing some research on Tegus and my fiancee and I are big herp lovers. We breed snakes and geckos, and I saw this amazing b&w tegu come into my pet shop the other day and it was love at first sight! I really want to get some breeders' opinions on them. How hard is it to breed Tegus? I was thinking I'd like to get more info on Colombians... If anyone has any advice or know of any great sites to get lots of good, and correct information, please let me know! Thanks in advanced!

Very little is known on columbians as far as breeding because no one really trys to in captivity. They are imported in such a large amount that CB would be harder to sell. I'm not saying it can't be done just that there is not too much known about it.

For more info here are two great sites to try:
Thetegu.com
tegutalk.com

both have great info on all tegu.

As stated in the above post it would actually cost you money to breed colombians. They are imported in such masses that their prices are very low.

The cost of food alone to keep up these animals can be alot. They also need alot of space. Not only that but if you haven't seen the trend yet these animals don't always produce every year. Sometimes breeders have babies available sometimes no one has anything available.
