Box turtle with... mites?

df92484 Dec 10, 2007 11:37 PM

hello everyone, have a quick question on mites. My wife has three box turtles, recently we found two small white insects crawling on the shell of one, they were very small (Smaller than fruit flies and cricket larva). My question is, could these be mites? I always thought they were red but I have been wrong before. any help would be great.

These are likely soil mites and can be eliminated by changing the bedding.

What kind of bedding is being used right now? It may be possible toi clean the bedding if you are using something that can be rinsed with hot water.
