Elapids in the Sinai Peninsula

skum2747 Dec 12, 2007 05:15 PM

Hello folks. I'm a snake fan myself but I request a bit of help. I want to insure my friends are aware of some of the venomous animals in the Sinai specifically. We plan on taking a trip there. Can someone be kind enough as to name a few elapids indigenous there?

I think Walterinnesia aegyptia is the only elapid....

Correct, Naja haje (Egytian cobra) is not found there.. They'd be very lucky to see a Walterinnesia. The vipers Echis coloratus or Cerastes cerastes or C. vipera would be the most likely venomous snakes to be encountered.

Cheers,

I was there for a week in June 2005 and did not see any snakes at all It is one of the most barren regions I've seen.
