HELP! 911! EMERGENCY!!!!

FoxSpirit Dec 17, 2007 08:03 AM

Ok so i have a Texas horned lizard few days ago he stopped eating and went stiff, now we kinda forgot about hibernation soooo...two nights later we remember and run out to dig him up. it was cold and he was under for 1 1/2 days and 2 nights, when we got him out he was relaxed, now when snakes die their bellys show the decomp and they start to smell, same goes for normal lizards, but HL's have tough skin and nothing's see-through, he doesn't smell but I'm thinking that he was hibernating when we buried him and maybe he died while under, but it gets cold in the wild and they bury themselves, what happens if they have a cave-in, also we've had him inside and on sand and under a lamp for 2 days 1 night no smell but there is something coming out of his nose, somebody tell me WHAT IS HIBERNATION are they stiff are they relaxed is the thing out his nose some kind of parasite or what?! it's december 17 2007 8am PLEASE SOMEBODY FINDOUT!

OK it's worms. Somekind of ring worm found out cause when i ckecked him there were more coming out his mouth. So is he dead or should i just remove them as they comeout? And still need answers about hibernation.

Sounds pretty dead to me. Warm him up. If he doesn't move after that, he's dead. Sad story.

OH YEA he's dead. Definatly. Well it happens. I still want to know how to tell when they're hibernating in case i get another hibernater.

The best advice I can give is go to the web site and read all you can about them before you try another one. Hibernation isn't overly difficult. They will go down naturally if you have it set up right. They will just dig in and won't come up any more until spring sometime.

Thanks alot for your help, he was already grown up and I had him for almost the whole year, wild caught explains the parasites, the reason we thought he was dead was cause his eye's were open and he didn't move when I misted him. Guess we'll never REALLY know. But yea I'm gonna do alot more reading and wait till next spring to get another HL.
